Tokyo speech class I Techer Mail J

You can learn Japanese at Shinagawa, Tennozuairu privately or in the small groop.
The place is only 8 minutes from the Shinagawa station
and 7 minutes from Tennozuairu station.

Longer sentence is more polite and shorter sentence is less polite in Japan like all over the world,
BUT we NEVER use <doomo arigatoo>to our customer, boss, teacher etc.
And we can use<
doomo>to them.
To say <
doomo arigatoo> to them sounds really rude between native Japanese.

But...
In this case, you are foregner.

And.
Of course "doomo arigatoo"sounds really nice and we Japanese recognize
"Thank you very much" means "doomo arigatoo"

Actually,we Japanese can not use<doomo arigatoo>to strangers neither because it sounds too casual
but
we Japanese expect that the foreigners whose appearance is different from us are more casual than we.
So you can say<
doomo arigatoo>to stranger and it sounds maybe better than <doomo> in that case.

form Thank you (very much)
present past
polite form Doomo arigatoo gozaimas Doomo arigatoo gozaimashita Thank you very much
Arigatoo gozaimas Arigatoo gozaimashita Thank you
Doomo Doomo Thanks
casual form Doomo arigatoo Doomo arigatoo Thank you very much
arigatoo arigatoo Thank you
San kyuu! San kyuu! Thank you

.
Hajime-mashite.Sachikodesu.
Doozo yoroshiku.

You can introduce yourself to replace your name with Sachiko. If you are younger than I, add<onegai shimasu>the end of upper.

hajime-masu means to start.Japanese verbs take object before verbs as the oposite as English case.
Kaigi(o) hajime-masu We'll start the meeting(You can say <meeting> instead of<kaigi>
Kangee-kai(o) hajime-masu We'll start the welcome party.<kai>means to meet persons.
Soobetsu-kai(o) hajime-masu We'll start the send-off party.
hajime-te means for the first time.
Nihon wa hajimete desu This is my first time to come Japan"
Hajimete tabe-mashita I ate it for the first time
Hajimete A-san to ai-mashita I met A-san for the first time.
"Kiki-masu" means to hear.So make the sentence means"I heard it for the first time"
Hajimete
(kudasai)
means (please)start.
Jugyoo(o) hajimete kudasai Please start the lesson.
Renshuu(o) hajimete kudasai Please start the practice
own name desu means My name is ______.
_____________desu --jin desu/age desu/Occupation desu///You can introduce your nationality,age,occupation.
LESSON 1. Can you imagine how many words are hidden in the greetings?
And these slanted words are all English-Japanese words.

Roman lett er KA NA meaning
ari gatoogozai masu Thank you.
ari masu to have
ii idea ga ari masu I have a good idea.
The most important greeting <arigatoo-gozaimasu> contains the most important verb <ari-masu>=<to have>.
Present/party/chance/gap/power/rule/noruma/plan/space.....ga-arimasu.(I have a present)
Melon/low-fat-milk/Japan Times/bathroom/air-con/meeting.....wa-arimasu-ka? (Do you have a melon?)

There are 2 types of<Take care of yourself>in Japanese.
Ki o tsukete kudasai Take care of yourself.
Terebi o tsukete kudasai Turn on the TV, please.
Radio/air-con/denki=light /hi(=fire).....o tsukete kudasai.(=Turn on the .......)

O daiji ni Take care of yourself.(only to the sick people)
Rule wa daiji desu Rule is important.
Communication/Shigoto=work/Kazoku=family/Tomodachi=friend/Jikan=time/O-kane=money....wa daiji desu.

Many books adopt <Take care of yourself> because the phrase is important
but they don't introduce the important verb <turn on> or adjective <important>.
I know it takes a lot of effort to remember words so I want to reduce your effort by 50%.

Lucky desu
Of course this pattern is the simplest.
Case by case/nonsence/shock/simple/no touch/no coment/over/safe/
OK
(=daijoobu).....desu.
<OK> sometimes means <Daijoobu desu> and sometimes means <Wakari-mashita>.
I recommend not to use OK but to use Daijoobu desu or Wakali-mashita when you speak in Japanese.

Shitsurei shi-masu May I come in?
John-saN wa shitsurei desu John is rude.
<Shitsurei>'s first meaning is <rude>.
Please put <san>after another person's name just like you put <desu>after adjectives:[Lucky desu].

Shitsurei shi-masu Good bye
O-negai shi-masu Please.
Cancel shi-masu I will cancel.
<Shi-masu> means <to do/play>. Golf/tennis/ski/....shi-masu.(I play golf.)

E-mail kudasai Please send me an e-mail
Relax shite kudasai Please relax.
<Kudasai> means <please>.
E-mail/menu/coke/cocoa/Newsweek/chocolate.....kudasai.
Relax/enjoy/u-turn/back/stop/copy/check/shampoo/cut/kiss......shite-kudasai.

....are all you can speak immediately.

5 minutes from Shinjuku.st/10 seconds from Higashi-nakano st.

P.S. Longer sentences are more polite than shorter one so we add <san> <desu> <masu> to the end.
But <Arigatoo>=<Thank you>paradigm has exception part.
Caution!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH

POLITE DOOMO ARIGATOO GOZAIMASU
ARIGATOO GOZAIMASU
DOOMO Caution!
CASUAL DOOMO ARIGATOO Caution!
ARIGATOO
SANKYUU
level We speak to..................on this level.
Polite the boss/customers/strangers/older people/people we don't know very well.
Casual family/close friends/people who serve us in shops/children/younger people

WE NEVER USE "DOOMO ARIGATOO" TO THE BOSS
BUT "DOOMO"

However, some Japanese feel that "doomo" is not good Japanese.
Everyone loves the sound of "doomo arigatoo".

It's really contradictory!
